Across the road from Camping Headquarters is the Philmont Training Center (PTC). This center is the pinnacle of BSA Adult Leader Training. Scouters from all over the country converge on the Training Center every year in order to develop, hone and share their skill in guiding the leaders of tomorrow. Even though the Philmont Training Center has been hosting training courses for various Scouting leaders, the inaugural season for the officially organized Philmont Training Center was 1951. Centered around the Villa Philmonte, the former summer home of the Phillips family, the Philmont Training Center also provides activities and excursions for family members who often come along with the scouters who are attending training. Programs such as the Kit Carson Men, Mt. Treks and Los Burritos have been developed by the ranch in order to provide a complete family experience while visiting the ranch. In addition, many scouters take part in the Urraca Trail program. This allows them to experience a bit of the backcountry and earn a hiking patch in the same manner as scouters going out on treks. 6" Philmont Training Center, Philmont Scout Ranch |
